6 TIPS FOR SURVIVING MOVE DAY IN THE HEAT

Moving houses can be stressful enough, so imagine what it will be like doing it in the hot summer season– this is why you must be ready for the heat. If you’re reading this article over the weekend and haven’t got in touch with Allied Pickfords team yet to help you with the move, then here’s some tips you can take to get through the process easier:

1. Do the heavy work before 10am and/or after 4pm

The hottest time of the day is always in the middle when the sun is highest in the sky. In that time of the day you don’t want to be doing any heavy lifting and carrying. Leave this work for the morning or the late afternoon.

2. Dress appropriately

When moving your belongings a lot of time will be spent outside in the heat. Wear loose, breathable clothing, do not wear dark clothes, avoid fabrics like polyester or flannel, as these will hold in the perspiration. If you can wear sports fabrics that are designed to be breathable, that’s fine. Also wearing sunscreen and hats when you are outside to avoid direct exposure to the sun.

3. Have plenty of  water available

Staying hydrated is one of the most important things to do. Make sure that you have plenty of fresh water near you. A good idea is at night before the next day comes, freeze a few bottles of water. That way you will have some cold water on your side, when tomorrow comes. Drinking sports drinks will help also. They can replace sodium and potassium which are lost through sweating. Never use them as a replacement of water. Don’t forget that H2O is your best buddy.

4. Look out for everyone involved

During hot summer weather you are at risk of heat related illness such as dehydration, cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. It’s vital to look out for your friends and family to be sure that everyone is feeling okay. The high temperatures can be very dangerous if you aren’t careful.

5. Take frequent breaks

If you feel tired, take a break! Take periodic breaks in a cool area to reduce the impact of the sun. Do not overwhelm yourself.

6. Avoid the stress by hiring the professionals

Avoid the stress of doing everything by yourself. Choose to move with a qualified removal specialist. Allied Pickfords is an industry leader and will make your move stress-free and smooth as possible.
